From Novelty to Normal in Two Years

A robot cleaning an office floor at night, long after the last employee has gone home, is no longer a talking point in Latvia. Over the past two years, autonomous floor cleaning has moved from from a novelty to a familiar solution in many facilities across Latvia. The experience of SIA “Viss visapkārt tīrs” (VVT), Gausium’s official channel partner in Latvia, clearly shows this.

Working directly with clients nationwide, VVT has installed more than 90 floor cleaning robots across facilities of every profile: office centres, manufacturing plants, food production sites, shopping centres, grocery stores, schools and public sector buildings. The decision is often driven not by an appetite for new technology, but by a practical need.

AE Partner, a manufacturer of automation and control systems, runs robots in both its warehouse and its offices. The warehouse is covered by Beetle and Omnie; in the office, a Gausium Phantas works through roughly 1,000 m² of carpeted area every night, so cleaning never interrupts the working day.

Matching the Robot to the Floor

A Bakery in Valmiera

At the Liepkalni bakery and shop in Valmiera, a Gausium Phantas has been in service for some time.

Food production and public-facing retail under one roof is a demanding combination, and the note about the robot working considerately around people matters in a space where customers and staff share the floor all day.

Autumn and Winter: When the Floor-Cleaning Robots Prove Their Value

As autumn turns to winter, moisture, grit and salt come indoors — concentrated at entrances, corridors and every high-traffic route. Floors need cleaning more often, and this is exactly where scheduled autonomous scrubbing separates itself from a cleaning round that happens once a shift.

Cleanhouse, a property management and cleaning company whose portfolio includes Riga’s Origo Shopping Centre, sees it daily.

“At Origo we use the Gausium Omnie. The robot does not replace people, but it is an excellent everyday helper — it keeps the ground floor clean while our staff are cleaning other levels and visitor traffic is at its heaviest. It delivers the greatest benefit in rainy and snowy weather, when a great deal of moisture, dirt and salt is carried in at the entrances. Our staff also appreciate that the cleanable area can be divided into zones, and that the robot can be run in manual mode as a conventional scrubber when needed.”

Two details in that quote are easy to miss and worth keeping. Zoning lets a cleaning contractor treat a mall concourse as several distinct problems rather than one. And manual mode means the machine still earns its keep during the exceptions — a spill, a one-off event, a stretch of floor outside the mapped route.

The Takeaway

They absorbed the repetitive kilometres, held quality steady through the worst of the weather, and freed skilled hands for the work that actually needs them.
